Ritchie’s Bus Line Threatens to Sue the Department of Transport
Attorney for Ritchie’s Bus Line, Orson Elrington, has written to the Department of Transport, demanding that the bus line be given a renewal of the road service permit that it has held since 2008. In a letter addressed to the department and copied to the Chief Transport Officer, Dian Vasquez Garbutt and to the Attorney General, Magali Marin Young, Elrington states that Ritchie’s Bus Line has complied with all the terms and conditions of their permit over the fourteen years they have held the permit and that to deny them a renewal is an attempt to deprive them of the bus run. Elrington goes on to threaten the department by stating that failure to comply with the demand to renew the permit will result in them taking legal action, for which the department will be responsible to cover all legal costs for the bus line. Elrington’s letter followed one that was sent to his client on January twelfth, informing them that the road service permit would not be renewed because when the board assessed their progress of commitments tabled, they found that the company had not made good on those commitments. That is, the company had not procured newer buses by December of last year. Further to that, the department informed that the terminal reports, copies of which it included, show that the company’s bus runs have been inconsistent due to mechanical failure. The department also pointed to complaints it had received regarding the safety, reliability and quality of service that the bus line provides.
