S.I.B. is Part of Redistricting Exercise
The census that the institute is compiling has proven relevant and helpful in the countrywide redistricting exercise. Today, S.I.B’s Acting Director-General, Diana Trejo explained that the institute has a representative on the redistricting task force and they share information.

“The data that we have collected, yes, it’s geo-referenced. This was the first census where we had G.P.S coordinates for every single household, therefore, every single record will be linked to a G.P.S coordinate. Now, to the question whether it would have been feasible to team up with the redistricting team, you know, there are issues of confidentiality when you talk about the census data, even the location of persons’ household is a sensitive piece of information, so while we have a lot of data that would be helpful to that effort, I don’t know that it might have been feasible to team up, given the confidentiality issues, the sensitivity of the data that we’re collecting.”
