Belize National Blood Transfusion Service Relocated

The Belize National Blood Transfusion Service has been relocated. The blood bank was once housed inside a small wooden structure next to the Central Medical Laboratory. And, according to Doctor Melissa Diaz Musa, after decades of use, the structure has been deemed unfit for use. The Belize National Blood Transfusion Service is now located on corner of Leslie and Meighan Avenue in the King’s Park Area, inside the same building at the Belize Diagnostic Center. Today, Doctor Diaz sought to clarify that the blood bank is not operating within the private facility. She also sought to dispel rumors that she is a relative of the proprietor from whom the ministry is renting the space.

“It is not a private facility that the blood bank is in. the blood bank has been functioning out of Mennonite house for many years, a building if your camera team had gone there would see that it is very dilapidated and dangerous for us to use. In fact, we have been asked to move out. We have been looking for a place to rent for the blood bank for many months and in 2022 in the early parts we found two places, but by the time we got back the information from Public Service, we got back to the owners of the building and they had rented it out. Not a lot of people would wait for us. A third person we approached did into want a blood bank in their facility; they were looking for an office space. So, at the 218 Meighan Avenue, they moved in earlier this week, it is an absolute upgrade and we are very proud that we have been able to provide this service at a new facility.   Just to make it clear, this is not operating inside a private facility. This is operating on its own. We have rented the entire space in that building downstairs and some offices upstairs. So, it has nothing to do with the other facility that is there. It is a separate area.”
