Tour Guide Chris Sosa Needs Assistance with Cancer Treatment  

Thirty-four-year-old Christopher Sosa, a well-known tour guide, needs your help as he battles with stage two germ cell cancer. Sosa, who is paralyzed as a result of the tumors around his spine, requires a surgery that carries a price tag of thirty-six thousand Belize dollars and he is leaning on your support to get him through this ordeal.  His family and friends, including his spouse, Dianelle Wade, have organized a raffle as a means of raising funds for the operation.  News Five spoke with Wade by phone.

“Over a year ago, Christopher was diagnosed with stage two germ cell cancer.  We completed a cycle of chemotherapy here in Belize and we also did a cycle in Campeche, Mexico.  He did eighteen out of twenty radiation sessions as well in Campeche, Mexico.  Unfortunately, he could not finish the entire session.  That was because he was starting to have complications, he was having severe back pains and while in Mexico that was when he started to lose mobility in his leg.  When he returned to Belize, we took him to KHMH and that is where more testing was done, an MRI, and we found out that he had two more tumors, one around the kidney and the other that was pressing on his spine and that is the reason he is now paralyzed from the waste down.  The tumor fractured his spine, causing paralysis and we spoke to Dr. Cervantes who told us that if there is a possibility for him to walk again then we need to remove, or they need to remove as much of the tumor as possible from around the spine and fix the fractured spine.  So that is where we currently are.  The total fee for the surgery that needs to be done is thirty-six thousand, four hundred Belize and it can be done at La Loma Luz Hospital here in San Ignacio.  Currently, we are doing a raffle.  We have quite a number of prizes, it’s six prizes and we are doing twenty dollars per ticket.”
