Start of 2022/2023 Sugar Crop Conditional on Signing of Commercial Agreement

When will the 2022/2023 sugar crop begin? That is the question on the minds of many. Today, A.S.R./B.S.I. issued a statement to the media earlier today saying that the mill has informed farmers and industry stakeholders that they are ready to accept cane starting December nineteenth, 2022. But, as we have reported, the Sugar Industry Control Board issued a release last week saying that it would be unlawful to conduct the delivery and grinding of sugar cane until the SICB has met to fix a date. Well, according to A.S.R./B.S.I., SICH met over the weekend and still no firm date for the start of the 2022/2023 crop has been decided. News Five has confirmed that at this weekend’s meeting the Sugar Industry Control Board passed a resolution stating that the crop will begin on December twenty-seventh with the condition that B.S.C.F.A. and A.S.R./B.S.I. signs a Commercial Agreement. That date is approximately one week from today, and information to our news room is that both parties have yet to sign a commercial agreement. We made several attempts to reach out to SICB for comments but to no avail. B.S.I. reiterated its readiness to start the crop. We will continue to follow.
