A Dream Come True – Oscar Quiroz is Signed to US Pro Cycling Team

Well-known Belizean cyclist, Oscar Quiroz has officially signed with the Miami Blazers, a racing team from the United States. The Galen graduate and junior environmental policy analyst within the Department of Environment began participating in the sport from the age of fourteen and became one of the country’s top cyclists, competing nationally and internationally. Quiroz has represented the Jewel in the Caribbean and Pan American Championships, the Commonwealth Games and a number of competitions in the U.S.  Quiroz recently finished twenty-seventh out of a hundred and fifty-nine professional cyclists at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England and got the attention of the Miami professional team.  During a Zoom interview with the media today, Quiroz said that getting a professional contract is a dream come through.

“To undergo or to actually be granted such an opportunity, I have to say off the bat that it is a dream come true. It is a dream that become reality all of a sudden and I aspire to do many great things, but you just never know when it will happen. To actually be performing and getting those impressive results in the past years, I think it is a huge milestone to be jumping the ranks into the professional league. I know many Belizean cyclists as well as athletes look forward to such a wonderful achievement. It gives you a great feeling inside of accomplishment deep down and it kinda just makes you feel that your work didn’t go unseen. I am kinda privileged that these guys actually saw this in me, in terms of my attitude, obviously my talent and of course, what I have to bring to the table. And so I think Justin was, I have to say a huge thank you to Justin. He has been looking up for me from ever since; it’s been years, hence the reason I brought up that story. It was like five or six years ago. At that time I wasn’t really shining, per say, but I was very consistent and I kept believing.”
