Caye Caulker Residents Brace for Hurricane Lisa

Today, over six hundred residents of Caye Caulker sought refuge on the mainland, but many remained on the island and made whatever preparations to pass the storm out there. Chairlady of Caye Caulker, Seleny Villanueva-Pott told News Five that people were moving about getting their personal stuff done in time and were heeding the early warnings.

“Be it their homes, they’re boarding up their boats, people are preparing with food so preparations are well underway. Most people are doing their own independent preparations.”

“And how many shelters you’ll have?”

Seleny Villanueva-Pott

“We only have one – the Caye Caulker Roman Catholic School. That’s the only one that we have available. It can hold about eighty people. Once that reaches the maximum capacity then we’ll have to close it, but for now we’re advising people to move in with family and friends.”
