Tourism Industry Prepares for Hurricane Lisa

Anthony Mahler

We also heard from Minister of Tourism Anthony Mahler about the preparations and potential impact to the tourism industry. As you may be aware, the industry only recently rebounded from the devastation caused by COVID-19. So, how will it fare off following Lisa? Minister Mahler says he met with the Belize Tourism Industry Association to put things in place to ensure the survival of the industry.  Here is what he told us on Monday.

Anthony Mahler, Minister of Tourism

“We had a meeting with BTIA this morning, their board of directors and we will continue to have dialogues with the industry. But we expect to have some cancelations in flights. From the cruise sector we have had cancelations already and we expect to have more as the storm comes to Belize. But, all we can do is to have our people be as prepared as possible and to hunker down nuh.”
