Junior Minister of Education on Cancelation of Classes

Louis Zabaneh

Turning back to our preliminary coverage of Tropical Storm Lisa, while with Doctor Louis Zabaneh this morning, he also spoke about the decision taken by the Ministry of Education to cancel classes today and until further notice, given the impending storm. The Minister of State told News Five that it was a no-brainer because it not only allowed for schools used as shelters to prepare, but that the COVID pandemic proved that with technology learning can continue even during disasters like these.

Dr. Louis Zabaneh, Minister of State, Education

“Our leadership team they did not hesitate. We saw the timing that the storm likely to affect us tomorrow and obviously, we can’t wait until tomorrow to start making preparations. So it was prudent for us to make that decision so that today we could be using the time to put into action our plans. And yes, we have learnt a lot through the COVID period to be able to use technology and so our teachers and our students have become resourceful. So during these times we are able to still continue to learn, even if it is not a formal arrangement to do that. And therefore it makes it a little more resilient, doesn’t it? That we can continue to do other things even when we are under these difficult times.”
