Prime Minister Says Agreement Has to Be Fair to Both Sides

Prime Minister John Briceño

The Prime Minister said that the key to solving the standoff is to be able to guide them to reaching an agreement that will be fair to the cane farmers, as well as to the company. He also said that both sides need to be willing to sit down and have good-faith negotiations.

Prime Minister John Briceño

“Should we attempt to do anything, from both sides, if we do something that would favour B.S.I, the B.S.C.F.A will take us to court and say they don’t have that authority. And if we do for the cane farmers, B.S.I would say we don’t have that authority. I think that both sides need to understand that they need to sit down and to have good faith negotiations to be able to find a settlement that is going to be in the interest of both parties. This can’t be one party wins all and the next party loses. Both parties need to give so that it would be a win-win for the farmers, for B.S.I. and for the country.”
