Still No Arrest in the Murder of PC Lorray Arzu

Fitzroy Yearwood

This morning, Assistant Superintendent of Police Fitzroy Yearwood, as well as Minister of Home Affairs Kareem Musa spoke fondly of the fallen constable.  In an appearance on Open Your Eyes earlier, Musa recalled PC Arzu being a member of the very first intake since he took over as Minister of Home Affairs.

“First of all, I’d like to extend a heartfelt condolences to the family of our fallen sister, PC 88 Lorray Arzu.  Ms. Arzu was shot in an incident last Thursday in Dangriga and our colleagues have been trying their best to put together the circumstances surrounding her death.  She lost her battle for life yesterday morning, sometime around 10:30 a.m. when a medical officer pronounced her dead at the Intensive Care Unit at the K.H.M.H.  We have been receiving several information in regards to what may have happened that cost her her life and we are investigating every angle.”

“A very unfortunate incident took place in Dangriga whereby two individuals were shot, one of them is our beloved PC Lorray Arzu who lost her fight.  We know she was valiantly fighting for her life over the last few days.  We in the ministry and the police department and the nation collectively had been hoping and praying for her speedy recovery.  Unfortunately, she did not make it and so we are all very much mourning the loss of PC Arzu.  Yesterday, while we were in Dangriga on our rural tour, we got word of her passing and so we were there to share in that moment with the brothers and sisters in the Dangriga formation in a moment of silence in recognition of her sacrifice as a police officer.  For me, it is very near and dear because she is a member of Squad 95 and as Minister of Home Affairs, that is our first, that is my first squad that graduated last December.  So it is a huge loss to Squad 95 and of course to the greater police department and of course to the nation of Belize.”
