Newspaper records the accomplishments of children

Story Picture
After months of hard work and many hours of editing and re-writing, the latest edition of the “Children In Action” newspaper rolled off the printing press this week. According to Editor Herschel Armstrong, the stories in this latest edition of the newspaper were carefully selected to reflect the achievements of Belizean children.

Herschel Armstrong, Editor, “Children In Action”

“Well in this issue we have a story on the computers donated to NOPCA, a story on politicians, children and how they feel. We have a story on the child care; a story on the outings that we the “Children In Action” took this year and on the children’s election that took place earlier this year.”

Q: “Why did you all choose these stories to report on?”

Herschel Armstrong

“Well at “Children In Action” we try to do stories that are based mainly upon children and their accomplishments, so these stories we feel are bringing out what the children of Belize are doing and what’s happening in their lives.”

Tanya Williams, Mentor, “Children In Action”

“I think it is very important to have a children’s newspaper. As you know most of Belize’s population is young but there are no outlets for them to express their ideas. So I think the newspaper is very important. Well actually Patrick, three or four months before we started to do our story, choosing the topics we wanted to do and we did a little editorising by picking out the topics we wanted to do and whether it would be good for the moment, especially September. We wanted to do something around that time, especially with school opening and everything. So we did about four months work prior to the actual date of publishing.”

The next issue of “Children In Action” is expected to hit the streets by the end of the year.
