Gunman Escapes from Police in Early Morning Shooting

Chester Williams

Gunshots rang out in Teakettle Village in the early hours of Thursday when someone discharged a firearm not far from where a police officer was waiting to be picked up by his colleagues.  It is not clear whether the officer was the intended target of the shooting, but what is known is that he returned fire and set chase after the suspect.  That individual subsequently escaped in a waiting vehicle.  Fortunately, no one was injured.  Earlier today, News Five spoke with Commissioner of Police Chester Williams.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police

“I know this morning, sometime around three [o’clock], a police officer reported that he was waiting for a transport to pick him up and while doing so, he heard the sound of gunshots being fired.  When he turned around, his colleague came and both of them saw the person fleeing the area.  They fired shots at the person but the person was able to get into a vehicle and went about his business.  The vehicle that the person got into was not properly identified by the officers, neither was the person, and so at this time it is difficult to know exactly who is involved.”

“And do you know who was the intended target in that case?”

Chester Williams

“Well, I don’t know.  I don’t know if the shots were fired at the police or in the air, but the police officer did say he heard the shots fired and when he looked, he saw a person and they pursued the person.”
