M.I.D.H. Restores Calla Creek Road following Flood Damages

Calla Creek Village residents can now move freely to and from their community after Ministry of Infrastructure Development personnel went in to repair a damaged culvert. The village was cut off from the rest of the country for the past three days, after floodwaters destroyed the culvert. We heard from the District Technical Supervisor at M.I.D.H. about the emergency repairs.

Obidio Estrada, District Technical Supervisor, M.I.D.H.

“The areas on this section for the district, especially the Calla Creek area, we are on the road Bullet Tree to Calla Creek right now. This is an area that the flood washes out the culvert on this area. So, we are working on this area at the moment trying to set back the culverts. As you see, we had a smaller one before. We are now putting a double culvert, the five foot culvert that will help for the future with the flood so we won’t have this problem again.   Parts of the village from Calla Creek was disconnected from the rest of the country for at least three days. We worked here yesterday late evening to try to bring back the road so people could pass. From yesterday evening around nine, it was already opened for people to move around nuh.”
