Mine Beer under Investigation by Financial Intelligence Unit

Chester Williams

According to ComPol Williams, the proprietor of Caribbean Brewing Company was reportedly in possession of travel documents for at least eight individuals who are employed at the brewery, suggesting that human trafficking may be involved.

“Also important to note was that it was also learned that the employer may have been withholding the passports of at least eight employees and again, that is an element of human trafficking.  But so far, we have been trying to get those employees to cooperate with investigators and that effort has been futile so far.  Nonetheless, we will continue to see what can be done.  In the event that any of them wish to cooperate with investigators, then we can look more intensely at the human trafficking aspect of that investigation.  There are also some labor laws infractions, as I was told, and I think the Labor Department is also looking at other aspects of the investigation.  In the issue in respect to the money and them having receipts, it’s an ongoing investigation.  I am sure that if it is that they can produce receipts indicating the collection of that sum and to show that they have paid their fair share of taxes then the income tax and the F.I.U. departments are going to release the funds back to them.  But, they have an investigation to conduct to make sure that the collection of the money is legal and that taxes were paid.”
