Francis Fonseca Says He Worries Not About His U.D.P Opponents in Freetown

The United Democratic Party has named two persons who will vie for their Freetown constituency convention. They are current caretaker, Orson Elrington and former two-time Belize City Mayor, Zenaida Moya. The victor of that round will go up against the incumbent, current Minister of Education, Francis Fonseca for the People’s United Party. Today the media got a chance to ask Fonseca for his views on this new development in the U.D.P. and how it factors into his five consecutive wins in that area.

“I hardly pay attention to what’s going on in the U.D.P. It seems to be a complete meltdown taking place. It’s very unfortunate for a party that has had great success, and as everyone has said, we need a strong opposition. In any democratic society that’s important. But I’ve never, I’ve never – I’ve ran five elections and won five elections. I’ve never focused on my opponents. I’ve always focused on my relationship with the Freetown community, and that’s what I will continue to do. I don’t pay attention at all to my opponents. I’m very, very comfortable, very happy with the strong relationship that I have enjoyed and continue to enjoy with the people of Freetown.”
