COVID-19 Numbers and Hospitalizations Down

Dr. Melissa Diaz Musa

COVID-19 numbers continue to spiral downward in Belize. In fact, this is the trend globally. Hospitalizations have also decreased, as a result. Over the last five weeks, Belize’s positivity rate has remained below five. Today, we received an update from Doctor Melissa Diaz-Musa on the latest COVID figures.

Dr. Melissa Diaz Musa, Director of Public Health Services, MOHW

“Regards to COVID-19 I think it is global now that most countries are reporting that there have been some reductions in some numbers and that is the same for Belize. In fact, our positivity rates for the last four to six weeks have remained below five which is something very positive, which means we have gotten through the last outbreak and that we are not seeing significant increase in numbers. In addition to this, the hospitalization rate remains very low and we continue to specifically monitor hospitalizations because when we look at the assessment and public health measures needed for COVID-19 we have to address a few things, not just the numbers, the positivity rate, but how sick are the persons in Belize. So, hospitalization is really key for us and if we see any changes we would definitely take precautions and measures. But, to date it continues to decrease.”
