ComPol says, Criminal Activity in Antelope Extension Area “is beyond policing”

Chester Williams

When asked about the ineffectiveness of policing and patrols as a deterrent to gang violence in these hot spots, the Commissioner of Police responded by saying that the situation is beyond policing. Here is how he puts it.

Paul Lopez

“Compol, talk about why it seems so impossible for police to police these areas effectively?”

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police

“It is not impossible for police to police these areas. We just can’t police everybody. I can’t say we are going to tag a police to every gang member. I don’t have the man power. It is human beings and at the end of the day while we do have police in the area, you would know that the criminals monitor the police. The police have to move around. They can’t stay in one particular area, when the police goes that way they do their thing the other way. It is not that it is difficult for policing, it is beyond policing. It has to do with human behavior, because as human beings we need to understand that we must act in a certain way. And, when we demit violence against our fellow human beings, then what does that say about us. From a police stand point, from a social stand point there is a lot that we have been doing, and I am sure the Belizean people can see and understand that we are trying.”
