B.D.F. Truck Crashes; Three Soldiers Suffer Minor Injuries

Jermaine Burns

There was a traffic accident on the Philip Goldson Highway on Monday that involved a B.D.F. truck that was traveling to the northern border on Monday morning. It didn’t result in any fatalities, but three soldiers did sustain varying degrees of head injuries. The B.D.F’s Chief of Staff, Lieutenant Colonel Jermaine Burns, said that speeding could not have been a factor in the crash.

Lt. Col. Jermaine Burns, Chief of Staff, B.D.F.

“It was one of our small vehicles as we would class them traveling to the northern border, where they would have been picked up by their counterparts from the Mexican military and taken into a meeting. Our Operations Officer and a couple others were traveling in that vehicle – about four of them. We were in conference when we learned that near the Maskall junction the vehicle overturned. The driver lost control. The injuries were a little bit beyond superficial. We had about three injuries to the head and these guys were taken to a hospital and I learned that they were to be released this morning. Other than that, scrapes, bruises and so on. But from the preliminary reports we’re told that the guy just lost control of the vehicle. The type of vehicle and the condition of the vehicle – speeding could not have been a factor. It’s an old vehicle. I’m not sure about the condition of the vehicle. We cannot say for sure if a vehicle is written off until a representative from the Traffic Department or the Vehicle Care Unit comes in to inspect that vehicle.”
