San Ignacio and Santa Elena Came Alive in September

In San Ignacio, politics was put aside on Independence Day. Mayor Earl Trapp and Belmopan Mayor Sharon Palacio joined each other on stage to dance to a Punta song, much to the delight of onlookers.  When we caught up with Mayor Trapp today in San Ignacio, we asked him about that moment and the overall outcome of the September celebrations in the twin towns. Here is what he told us.

“I always, regardless of the season that we are in, you know, I always look at things on the same level. I don’t see colors. I work with just about everybody. But, this September celebrations were special. It is special for us because it is our Independence. At the time of Independence we are one people. We are Belize, we are one people and we should work together. I have always made it open to my colleagues, invite them here and we mingle and have a good time. But, yes it was a concert we had with Lova Boy at the Welcome Center and I gave her that invitation and she came out and we were on stage and basically supporting the artist and he came and dragged me out and I honestly didn’t want to do that. Again, it is always important mingle with your people and show your people that you are on the same level like them. We are not bigger than them. We are one people and we should enjoy together. I saw that yesterday during our parade where many of our residents here in San Ignacio and even people that visit us from out-district they said Mayor I want you to come on stage with us later, I want to dance with you, but, I mean it just happened.”
