Illegal Cuban Nationals Busted Out West Near El Pilar
The illegal influx of Cuban migrants into Belize has been persistent since the beginning of the year, arriving into the country from various points of entry. Over the extended weekend, a group of Cuban nationals was busted in the vicinity of El Pilar, near the Belize-Guatemala border in the west. According to the spokesperson for the Belize Police Department, the matter is being investigated by the Immigration Department.
ASP Fitzroy Yearwood, Communications Director, B.P.D.
“I received just a short report because I also was informed that Immigration has taken over that investigation and I am certain that when they have concluded their investigation, they would update us. But yes, we do have Cuban nationals in custody and yes, it was by our Mobile Interdiction Team. But as I said, they have since been handed over to Immigration. So I would have to get an update from the Immigration office and they I can relay that to you.”
