COVID on Decline, Despite September Celebrations

This year, COVID has allowed us to return to a sense of normalcy and, even with no mandated public health measures in place; new infections during the September Celebrations are on the decline. But Director of Health and Wellness, Doctor Melissa Diaz-Musa told News Five today that exercising the safety measures cannot hurt, since COVID is only one disease we can contract.

“We’re not seeing any clusters at this point. People are coming in to be tested and we’ve got to remember that it’s not only COVID circulating. We’re going back to other viruses – usual viruses that may circulate, especially (with) school reopening, children associating closer together, so it’s not only COVID. But again, responsibility lies on the individual, with regards to – we do know that the persons who get more sick are persons with co-morbidities. IF you know that you’re not feeling well, if you know that you have been hospitalized recently, try to avoid large crowds and big areas that are congested. That’s one of the best advices in terms of ensuring that you protect yourself. And if you are ill and you know that you have an elderly mother or grandparent – whatever the case is at home – you should ensure that if you do have flu-like symptoms you should avoid visiting close relatives that may have some co-morbidity or immune system suppression to ensure that they don’t get ill.”
