City Council says flooding will continue

Story Picture
If you’re wondering why your children still have to wade through parts of Belize City holding their tennis shoes in their arms, the City Council has some explanations and some not-so-good news. The council says the flooding is occurring on streets in low-lying areas or within three hundred feet of the sea, river, creek or canals. They say clogged drains and broken culverts are not the problem. And if you’re thinking that the water will be going down, think again. As the rivers continue to swell in the west, water levels will continue to rise, causing drains to overflow. The council says so far they have documented twenty flooded streets on the northside of the city, including all of the Belama phase three and all that area along the Northern Highway near the Biltmore Plaza. On the southside, fourteen streets are experiencing high water, including the Western Highway between miles four and five.
