Belize’s Football Team to Play Against Top Ghanaian Football Club

The Belize Jaguars Football Team will get some more international exposure when it plays one of Ghana’s top football teams later this year. The friendly matches came about through ties that Belmopan Mayor, Sharon Palacio has made with officials of the Asante Kotoko, a professional football club of Ghana. The Football Federation of Belize’s Technical Development Director, Philip Marin told News Five that the matches will take place in November during a Mayors’ Conference. The objective of the collaboration, he said, is more of an exchange program.

“The Ghana Football Team will come to Belize to play two friendly matches and we will, in the future, go to Ghana to play matches probably in our youth teams or senior teams or we can send our coaches or players to study in Ghana. So the main objective is for us to develop an exchange program between the two entities.”

Marion Ali

“What’s your perspective on how this will help our guys to develop and advance internationally?”

Philip Marin

“Asante Kotoko Sporting Club is a big club in Ghana. It is the number one club in Ghana and also the sixth-ranked team in the entire African football. So this match between Belize Senior Men’s Team and Asante Kotoko Sporting Club will boost the fan base of our senior national team and also will expose our players to the world.”
