Belizeans Abroad Reach Out to the Family of Mercedes Campos

Eight-year-old Mercedes Campos, a resident of Lord’s Bank Village, lost her life near mile nine in Ladyville in August when a drunk driver ran her over while walking along Poinsettia Street with her mother. The sudden and tragic demise of the primary school student, who was preparing to return to Buttonwood Bay Nazarene School earlier this month, sent shockwaves across the nation. It also touched the lives of Belizeans in the Diaspora, including the proprietors of AI Sea Breeze in Los Angeles, California. The owners of that business reached out to activist Geovannie Brackett to see how they can assist young Mercedes’ family. With his help, a barrel of items was delivered to the grief-stricken family of the minor.  In a brief statement from the donors, they said, “no amount of tears or goods will heal the pain and salve the loss of Mercedes, but it is hoped that this gesture will reaffirm the good in all of us and serve as a reminder that Mercedes has not been forgotten”.
