Bar Waitress Murdered on Tomb in Independence Village

Marcelina Makin

Two murders were recorded in the south in less than forty-eight hours. The first involved the chopping death of a man in Bella Vista Village, but it was a most gruesome discovery of the body of a woman in Independence Village that is gripping the crime news from the south tonight. The resident from Santa Teresa Village, Toledo had been working at a bar in Independence for about two months. There are reports that she had been robbed and possibly even raped prior to a grisly discovery this morning when she was found dead atop a tomb inside the Independence Cemetery.  News Five’s Duane Moody reports.

Around 6:30 this morning, as a resident went to lay flowers at a loved one’s tomb in Independence Village, a most gruesome discovery was made inside the cemetery. The decomposing body of a woman was seen on a grave – it was face down with cut wounds to the back of the head and face.

“We haven’t received the true identity as yet and since the first news broke, we haven’t received an update. But as soon as I get that update I will send it to you whether via the WhatsApp group or by email.”

Paul Lopez

“So what details can you tell us preliminarily?”

ASP Fitzroy Yearwood

“A body was found; she had injuries and officers are examining the scene.”

“And where is that scene located sir?”

ASP Fitzroy Yearwood

“Independence cemetery.”

The deceased has since been identified as Marcelina Makin, a resident of Santa Teresa Village, who worked as a waitress at Blue Angels Bar Malt & Cider, approximately two blocks from the cemetery. According to police, she was last seen alive on Friday at work and her body discovered was this morning. Big Falls resident Susana Coc, who was a coworker of the deceased, says she heard about the tragedy when she arrived at the village today.

Susana Coc

“Well yes, it is frightening because it is the first time and it is so sad because it is my friend.”

Reliable reports to News Five suggest that Makin may have been sexually assaulted before being killed. While that has not been officially confirmed, Coc says that Ana, as she is affectionately known, was the victim of a robbery about two weeks ago.

Susana Coc

“Maybe three weeks now, she told me that somebody stopped her at the road going to the cemetery and they thief her stuff, her money and things. That dah weh she tell me but she neva identify who was the person.”

Duane Moody

“Dah mi one person weh do this?”

Susana Coc

“Well she said one person. I am ‘fraid because it is my first time hearing about this dah Mango Creek.”

Duane Moody

“…and you said you guys are not from here; you’re from PG.”

Susana Coc

“Well I am not from here, I am from big Falls.”

Duane Moody

“…and Ana was from that side too?”

Susana Coc

“Somewhere. Santa Teresa, I think.”
