Leader of the Opposition on Fact-finding Mission in Gales Point
Leader of the Opposition, Moses “Shyne” Barrow, along with U.D.P. Senator Beverly Williams and Former Belmopan Area Representative, John Saldivar visited Gales Point Manatee on Sunday, where he met with the villagers as part of what is called a fact-finding mission on the Vulcan project that the government recently ruled against. Gales Point Chairman, Jason Altschaft told us how the visit went.
Jason Altschaft, Chairman, Gales Point Village
“He said he’s going to all villages and they were also on a little bit of a fact-finding mission to find out what is the temperature of the village. How many people are for it and against it, this kind of thing because there’s been so much news coverage on this? I hope that they choose to truly listen to the voice of the people – find out – get some facts because I hear that they’re unhappy that there weren’t any facts given yesterday, so – but we’ve got the facts. We’ve had three years of getting facts and I’d be more than happy to sit down and share with them everything I know so that we can get this thing clear. We’re not against jobs at all. We’re just against the mining that they want to do. If they want to bring in some jobs, please, we’re all about it. I would love to work with Shyne Barrow. We have music and culture, which is his expertise. He could really join together forces on this and we take the political part out of this. That’s what I would love to see – it’s more community – more let’s work together, let’s do what’s right for Belize. That’s what I hope he’s here to do.”
