Police Radios Replacing Cell Phones in Belize City

Chester Williams

In addition to cameras, police officers in Belize City are also being equipped with ten new radios, courtesy of Prime Minister John Briceño. ComPol Williams told us why this is a necessary addition to police resources.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police

“One of the issues we have been having is that we were lacking radios. So, you find that many officers were utilizing their phones to communicate with the control room in Belize City. You would know that the phone, while it is useful it is also an obstruction to the police officers performing their duties the way they should. They don’t only use it to communicate to the control room. They use it to stay on social media and do things they are not suppose to be doing. So, they become inattentive while on duty. So, the more radios we get, we can tell our officers you no longer can take your phones on patrol. You have to leave it in a safe location at the station or you don’t bring it to work at all. With that you will see that we will be able to get more results from our officers.”
