Ministry of Natural Resources Call on Belizeans to Conduct First Registration
And, with the upgrade of the Landfolio system, now is a good time to conduct your first registration process, if you have not done so as yet. For those who may not be aware, Belizeans owning land within declared compulsory land areas are required by law to declare their ownership with the Land Registry. Currently, the Orange Walk and Corozal Districts make up the majority of compulsory land areas in the country. One benefit of engaging this process, as the new Landfolio system comes online, is the additional protection from incidents of land duplication.

“There is also the issue with respect to the first registration. What the law requires for us to do we do not have sufficient man power to get that done. So, that is the reason why we have started this project where we do request or we are asking for first registration to be done so that we can update our system to reflect in those registration areas, the declared areas, so that we have all the records pertaining to the parcels in those areas. And then, when it comes to the undeclared areas, then our system will show where it is a private land, it is going to be reflected there. It is not that this new Landfolio will fix that problem, but we are hoping that eventually it will allow us to update our system so that we have completely accurate and comprehensive information. We do not have a hundred percent registration in any of the declared areas. So, for those areas particularly in the north, Belize District, and a portion of the south, the land owners there if they have not done their first registration there they should come and do that so we can have that information in our records. Then, that would contribute to us ensuring that we do not have that duplication.”
