Acting Prime Minister Cordel Hyde on Waterloo E.I.A. Public Consultation

Cordel Hyde, who is currently the Acting Prime Minister, also spoke on this evening’s consultation. He told reporters that if it was left up to him alone, the public event would not have taken place. Here is what he had to say when we caught up with him at an event this afternoon in Belize City.

“As I have probably said before, that is something the government will have to grapple with. That is a discussion that government will have to have going forward. As it is right now, you have that this evening. If it was up to me, that wouldn’t be the case, but.”

“You are acting PM. You actually have the power and authority to stop that process.”

“You are assuming that. We live in a democracy and a country of laws and ultimately as the acting Prime Minister I am not a unilateral operator. This process has started, it is at this point. The Belizean people I am very confident are going to make their voices known, are going to make their concerns known this evening, and it should be an interesting meeting, an interesting consultation to say the least.”
