B.D.F. Soldiers at Price Barracks Receiving Counseling Following Two Deaths

Counselors from the Government of Belize’s Employee Assistance Program were at the Price Barracks today meeting with the female platoon and the leadership staff, in the wake of the death of two of their fellow soldiers.  Since the passing of Private Micah Miguel, the leadership has sought to improve their wellness services.

Lt. Col. Jermaine Burns, Chief of Staff, B.D.F.

“In respect to the betterment of our wellness facility, we have made some significant strides over the past few days to troy and multiple the efforts we have with the care we give to our soldiers in that area, in terms of mental health. We have since yesterday solicited the assistance of the employee assistance program from the government to send a few of its members here to counsel the entire female entourage, because they were all in numbers at the funeral to represent and they were very shaken up. We have the football club, was to be played this afternoon by members of the female platoon, and that was, while very resilient, we have opted to withdraw them from the game because they are very shaken up. They will see those counselors this afternoon, and a couple of our leadership staff as well. And we will try to understand where we need to go after this, while respecting that the job must go on.”
