B.B.A. and House Speaker Accept Wade’s Apology

And the B.B.A. has responded to Wade’s apology. In a letter bearing the same date, Chairman of the B.B.A. Evan Tench wrote to Speaker Woods, thanking her for bringing the authority’s attention to the questionable language that Wade used. Tench wrote in part: “We have since engaged Mr. Wade after listening to the remarks uttered on his morning show. He has assured the B.B.A. Board, that in no way, he made those comments with the intent to be demeaning and to inflict any harm whatsoever. His word choice was cause for public concern, as a consequence Mr. Wade has retracted said comments and has given a formal apology on air”. House Speaker Woods, on behalf of the caucus, has posted on her Facebook page, accepting the apology from Wade. Her post read in part: “A step in the right direction. A significant public one for gender sensitization and gender equality. An example of multiparty collaboration – the collective work of House Members Dolores Balderamos-Garcia, Tracy Panton, Elvia Vega-Samos, Senators Beverly Williams, Erica Jang, Elena Smith, Janelle Chanona, Isabelle Bennett and the Presiding Officers. Thank you Belize Broadcasting Authority and the PlusTV team for addressing it. There will always be those who don’t get it, who don’t agree that this should have been taken on or don’t consider the importance and impact of language. The hope is to increase the numbers who”.
