Belizean Cyclist Oscar Quiroz Back from 2022 Commonwealth Games

Belizean cyclist Oscar Quiroz returned home recently from the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England. Quiroz did exceptionally well during the hundred-mile race he competed in, placing twenty-seventh from a hundred and twenty-nine international cyclists. Additionally, Quiroz placed third among the cyclists that competed from the Caribbean. He appeared on Open Your Eyes this morning to share his experience at the games.

“I did both disciplines, which was the individual time trial, that is the one you race against the clock, for the individuals who might not know. Then, you have the road races were you race together and you race for a hundred miles or so, just a hundred miles. Ideally, the experience was a lot to take in, especially as a small nation going against these Tours de France guys. Like literally, what you see on TV you see right in front of you. You have to really keep it together not to be star. It is just a ridiculous experience. It is hard to explain how you feel. You get a bunch of emotions flowing. You get nervous, anxiety, because you know you have to compete against these people right now, but at the same time it is like shux I finally get to meet this guy. We as Belize you might she, bway yo nuh really good. But, when you go to these games honestly people see you different and you have to respect yourself as an athlete when you get to this level. That is what we have to take in when we go into these big games like this.”
