CitCo Presents A Night of Culture

The Belize City Council is hosting a night of culture on Saturday at the Belize City Civic Center.  The event promises a culinary and musical experience that showcases food and music from various ethnic groups across the country.  Mayor Bernard Wagner tells us more.

Bernard Wagner

Bernard Wagner, Belize City Mayor

“As a city, as a municipality, we don’t want to leave anyone behind, any community behind and it’s very important that we are able to bring all the cultures together. We call it a culture night where resident from all across the city could converge at the Civic Center grounds, enjoy cultural music, cultural foods, enjoy the diversity of the entire Belize City melting pot, the country’s melting pot, enjoy some music. We’ll have Garifuna drummers, we’ll have salsa, we’ll have cumbia.  We’ll have jazz, very important.  We’ll have Creole performances, so we are very excited about this type of event that we are having.  We don’t want to leave any community behind, we’ll provide the safety net for those visitors visiting the cultural night extravaganza.  We have never had any incident and I will knock on wood again, at none of our events because we try to provide that security blanket all across our events.”

Isani Cayetano

“Can you tell us when this will be and perhaps if it is an event that is free to the public or there’s a cover charge or what have you?”

Bernard Wagner:

“Yeah, it’s this Saturday night, it starts at five in the evening at the Civic Center grounds, right next to the Belize River.  It goes from five until ten and we are looking forward to a very, very nice, family-oriented night on the river banks of the Belize River.”
