Melissa Musa

Musa said that vaccination has proven to still be the most effective weapon against COVID-19, even if the Omicron sub-variants bring mild symptoms. Hence, she advises those who are still unvaccinated to take their shots to lessen the symptoms of the illness.

Dr. Melissa Musa, Dir., Public Health & Wellness, Min. of Health & Wellness

“Omicron, which is not as deadly, has mutated so much that it has actually almost killed off Delta at this point. It isn’t to say that – we can’t just put our guard down and say okay, Omicron will be like a cold. We’ve got to ensure that we remind the public that people are still getting very unwell with Omicron. And with any infectious disease, we don’t want that to spread, you know. We need to see how we can contain it and we need to ensure that we reduce this transmission as best as possible. So it doesn’t really have – with regards to the vaccines, the vaccines provide the protection that we have been saying – it protects us against severe disease, and it protects us against hospitalization and death and we continue to see that. The persons who have died from COVID-19, the majority of cases were actually unvaccinated.”
