Ministry of Home Affairs Speaks on Mass Shooting Event
In the wake of the deadly shooting the Government of Belize, along with several other organizations, including the National Garifuna Council and the National Commission for Families and Children, issued statements condemning the violent act. This morning, we had an opportunity to speak with Home Affairs Minister Kareem Musa who commended the police department for its quick work in apprehending the suspects.
Kareem Musa, Minister of Home Affairs
“A very unexpected incident occurred whereby eight individuals, including police officers were shot and two individuals lost their lives. And so, we extend our condolences to families of those two individuals and we wish the other six a speedy recovery. Tragic and unexpected, like I said, something that the police could not have foreseen but at the same time, I want to acknowledge the very hard and swift work by the police department in apprehending the three suspects. From the information that I have received, we have very good evidence against these three individuals so you can expect that charges will be laid and those individuals will be sent to prison to await their trial. So we expect, like I said, we have good evidence and we expect a conviction in this case.”
