Eight Criteria for Amnesty 2022 Applicants

We also heard from Doctor Gilroy Middleton, the C.E.O in the Department of Immigration. He explained that upon completion of the process at the Immigration office in Belmopan, each applicant is given a Q.R. code which they can use to track the progress of their application at any time. C.E.O. Middleton also reminded potential applicants of the criteria for applying.

“We are looking at individuals that have been in Belize for several years. We are looking at individuals that have invested in Belize, individuals that have family in Belize. So, the basic criteria, we have eight criteria, one, individuals that have applied for refugee status, so asylum seekers, two, individuals referred to us by Human Services Department, three, individuals that have been married to a Belizean more than a year, individuals that have been in a common law relationship, and by our laws we are looking at five years. So, that would be the first four. The fifth one will be looking at individuals that have been employed in Belize. So, the employer would provide proof that they were employed in Belize. The sixth one would be individuals that have been here and have gone through the school system, so elementary school, high school, university. Apart from that, we are looking at individuals that have been here for some five years already.”
