Bishop Nicasio Recovering and in Good Spirits

Father Noel Leslie is one of three senior priests who will be assisting with Bishop Nicasio’s desk while he is away. Father Leslie says that the bishop is in good spirits and will be meeting with the clergy virtually.

“In his absence, myself, Father Chi and Father Gongora – we are the more senior priests in the diocese right now – we are the ones that are going to carry on the running of the place, make sure that things go rightly until he returns. We cannot make any major decisions as such – we can still consult with him about that – but the other every day affairs of the diocese, we can make some basic decisions. We do call upon the people of the diocese of the country to pray for him, to remember him, that he will bounce back and recover quickly and be able to return back to his duties here in the diocese of Belize City and Belmopan.”

“Have you guys been able to speak with him to know whether he is in good spirits at this time?”

“Well from the message we got, he sends us messages on our cell phones and they are quite, I’d say, looking forward to better things. He is enthusiastic. Hopefully tomorrow we are supposed to have a meeting and I know that on the agenda, he is supposed to speak with us virtually. He is staying at a very nice place, at the retirement home for the clergy of the archdiocese of Saint Louis. He mentioned that the service there is very good and that he was eating normally. There are a couple priests there that he knows so he is lonely.”

This evening, Minister of Public Service, Constitutional and Political Reform and Religious Affairs, Henry Charles Usher issued a statement saying that he and the ministry are sending their prayers and well wishes for a complete healing of Bishop Nicasio. The release ends by asking the nation to join in lifting the bishop and all those affected by cancer in prayer.
