International Artists Arrive in Belize for Music and Food Festival

In less than twenty-four hours, the first-ever Belize International Music and Food Festival takes place in San Pedro. The culinary aspect includes seventeen booths which will be featuring cultural foods and more and there is free access throughout the day for that form of entertainment. Then at five o’clock the grounds reopen for live musical performances from Belizean and international artists.  Today at the Philip Goldson International Airport, Timaya, Demarco, Barrington Levy and D.J. Supa Twitch arrived and we were able to grab a quick word with them before they headed onwards to San Pedro.

It’s the eleventh hour and already, international artists are coming in for the Belize International Music and Food Festival. The two-day event takes place on Saturday and Sunday at the Saca Chispas Field in San Pedro and is highly anticipated.

“We just saw minutes ago, Demarco, Timaya, Barrington Levy, DJ Supa Twitch – they are here in Belize. The festival is kicking off tomorrow. Things are already getting starting from today. Come out, get your tickets! This is the time now. It is happening tomorrow, Saturday and Sunday.”

Shanice Middleton

Shanice Middleton, Industry Relations Coordinator, B.T.B.

“We want to cater to everybody so you can come out and enjoy from yo soulful reggae to your extra jump up with yo soca crew. And let’s not forget that you are going to have several different food options. So it is not just to focus on music, but we are giving you a combination of both.”

Except for Timaya, Demarco, Barrington Levy and DJ Supa Twitch – who is actually Belizean by the way – have all performed in Belize before.

Demarco, Jamaican Artist

“The food, everything, the environment. I am glad to be here. The dedication that I have for the music, the love that I have for the music, the creativity that I bring to the table, the independence as well, the melodies – all of that stuff I want people to take away from what Demarco wah bring to the table.”

Timaya, Nigerian Artist

“Belize gonna be great. I heard a lot of thigns about Belize. First of all dehn say come with yo girlfriend and don’t come with yo wife – so that’s a good one.”

“What can people expect from Timaya?”

“They should expect fire from Timaya cause Timaya is gonna be fire forever and ever. Belize please.”

DJ Supa Twitch

DJ Supa Twitch, Performer

“This is my second home, yes indeed. We are looking for a great festival. It is going to be crazy. It’s gonna be big. The entertainers here are super talented and I am just happy to be a part of the whole thing.”

Barrington Levy

Barrington Levy, Jamaican Artist

“It is a pleasure to be back in Belize one more time. I was looking forward to coming here and now I am here. Everybody up and I am ready for this.”

And if you are one of those who wait until closer to midnight to come out to the concert, think again. International artists will be taking to the stage as early as seven p.m.

Phylicia Pelayo

“We can confirm that. Do not wait to go out until twelve o’clock or two o’clock in the morning cause you will be missing a lot going on. So the way the festival has been structured, we want to give Belizean artists, they will be taking the stage the same time international artists will be taking the stage. Headliners as early as seven p.m. tomorrow. We are not saying who it is going to be, you have to go out there to see who it is going to be.”

Shanice Middleton

“Might be on a budget? You have the option, you can catch the boat for only ninety dollars a round trip ticket and that gives you general access for one day. The boat leaves at four p.m. and returns back or depart from San Pedro at four a.m. so nobody have an excuse as to why you cannot make it out to this event. “
