An Update on K.H.M.H. Recovery

As the country continues its battle with the COVID-19 pandemic and is in the process of recovery, News Five asked K.H.M.H. C.E.O. Chandra Cansino about that process for the national referral hospital. She says that while as an institution it has been able to resume some of its specialty services, there are challenges with collection, even though they are not turning away anyone who needs medical attention.

“We are still in the recovery process from COVID and so that is taking us a little bit of time. So every day we inch closer to recovering from the financial implications as well as the staff being worn out, so we are trying to address those little by little. We have now resumed these services and we are just about fully open in regards to specialist services and specialist care. Finance continues to be our number one challenge. We continue to improve our billing services so that people are getting their bills, but the collection is still very much a challenge. We are about to embark on an incentive program for persons who owe the hospital, so we are going to let you know about that going forward to offer some incentives to persons to come in and pay their bills. And so we try every day; we know the challenges people face every day – we turn back no one – but we are very challenged where the finances are concerned because we need the money to turnover to provide the services that the public needs.”
