Will Waterloo’s Principal Back Churches and Opposition in Cannabis Referendum?

Prime Minister John Briceño

Prime Minister Briceño was asked if the Government of Belize is concerned that the principal of the Waterloo project will back the churches and the opposition in the cannabis referendum because of NEAC’s decision to refuse environmental clearance until all requisite documents are submitted.  Here is how P.M. Briceño responded.

Prime Minister John Briceño

“That is his right. He is a Belizean citizen and he has a lot of money, and if he wants to support the churches just to spite us because we have not given him clearance under the NEAC that is his right. The point that I have made is that there is a process under the NEAC that every company has to go through. The Port of Belize or Waterloo, when they were doing their presentation to NEAC, there were some extra information that were being asked of them and they refused to provide it. It is because of that refusal that the NEAC decided at that time they would not provide it. They have started again and now they are prepared to provide that information and I think they have just finished giving now all the information. I think, I am not too sure and will have to double check with the Minister of Sustainable Development, because I have not spoken to the members of NEAC to find out how for at it is. But, I think they have issued all. And, if they get their clearance, of course they are going to get the support of the government.”
