A National Energy Use Survey to Create an Energy Plan for Belize

Michel Chebat

The Energy Unit within the Ministry of Public Utilities, Energy, Logistics, & E-Governance is embarking on an initiative to improve policies that can support the economy, as well as the environment. To do so, it has been engaging organizations through the Belize National Energy Use Survey 2022; that data will assist in with updating the energy policy and for creating an energy plan for the country. Minister of Energy Michel Chebat spoke briefly about this process.

Michel Chebat, Minister of Energy

“As you know we are looking at renewable energy. Especially with the high cost of fuel, we are looking at ways of how we can bring electricity to this country at cheaper rates. And so we are hoping that this survey will help us to point to that way.”

Duane Moody

“Does the high fuel prices affect the way how your ministry is able to service the population.”

Michel Chebat

“I don’t know that it directly affects us, but it affects the entire country and the entire economy.”
