Briceño Administration’s Challenge to Fill Auditor General Vacancy
The Government of Belize has been facing difficulties filling the Auditor General’s post, following the retirement of former Auditor General Dorothy Bradley in 2021. According to Prime Minister Briceño, G.O.B. is yet to identify a suitable candidate for the post. He revealed that there is a possibility that Bradley will return to the post temporarily, until a permanent hiring is made.
Prime Minister John Briceño
“We are having a problem in, there are several problems when it comes to hiring people at these high levels. Presently, we feel we have not identified a person within the Department that can hold that position. I think the people there will need some more experience and work. Secondly, if we try to bring in people from the private sector, they are not going to work for what they are being paid for so they are not interested. That is always the problem we have. Thirdly, I think the last time I had a meeting with the former Auditor General and she had expressed interest when we asked her to come back for another year, then that will then allow us more time to identify an auditor general to take it over from there.”
