Belmopan City Council to Host TAG Teen Summit 2022
Belmopan City Councilor, Nikki Augustine, is organizing an event that she believes will help teenagers process some of the modern personal challenges they face in everyday life. TAG Teen Summit 2022 is being described as an event where teens from across the country will be able to gather, learn from each other, exchange shared experiences, and engage the success stories of some well-known Belizeans. The goal of the event, says Augustine, is for participants to inform future programs geared towards addressing teen issues. She says her team will also engage parents, at a later date, with the information gathered from this event. The event is scheduled for Saturday July twenty-third at the Belize Biltmore Plaza in Belize City. Augustine spoke with us via Zoom.
Nikki Augustine, Councilor, Belmopan City Council
“We are hosting from the Belmopan City Council our first ever TAG Teen Summit. It is under the theme, Learn, Exchange and Engage. One of the reasons we want to have this summit is that one we were seeing, not only in Belize but in the Caribbean and around the world where there is an increase in child suicide. We understand that there is some impact our teams may have when it comes to mental health, and dealing with peer pressure, and cyber bullying etc. So, as a part of this summit, we wanted to bring teens together from across the country to discuss some of the challenges they have been having, giving them a safe space to hear from others, hear other stories, and then of course, exchange. We have key, my story discussions from Sean Kuylen, Stig Da Artist, and we have a presentation from Miss Earth Ms. Destiny Wagner who will be a part of this summit. And, apart from those discussions we also have the Minister of Education, Honorable Francis Fonseca who will be talking about educational opportunities and reimaging education itself. We do have a series of panel discussions that will be happening throughout the day.”
