Coast Guard Shakeem Richards Charged in Puma Gas Station Robbery

ASP Fitzroy Yearwood

A member of the Belize Coast Guard has been named as the suspected getaway driver in the robbery at Puma Gas Station last Thursday.  On Friday, we reported that three armed men robbed the gas station at the corner of Faber’s Road and the George Price Highway. An undisclosed amount of cash was stolen, but as the thieves drove off in a getaway vehicle, they tossed the loot, which was later recovered by the police. The vehicle was reportedly intercepted in the Lake Independence area. Two days later, on July ninth, police formally arrested and charged Shakeem Richards, a coast guard officer from Hattieville for the crime of robbery.

ASP Fitzroy Yearwood, Communications Director, Belize Police Department

“Shakeem Richards, twenty-three-year-old Coast Guard was arrested and charged by police for being a getaway driver at a robbery that took place at the Puma Gas Station corner of Faber’s Road and George Price Highway. He was charged for his involvement and should be arraigned sometime today.”

“Is the department seeking the perpetrators of this robbery? Any word if anyone has been detained? I know police recovered the money that was stolen.”

ASP Fitzroy Yearwood

“Well so far the only arrest released to me is that of Richards.”

News Five spoke with the leadership of the Belize Coast Guard who says that a disciplinary case will be conducted internally against Coast Guard Richards.
