Upgrading the Services at Sr Cecelia’s Home for the Elderly

Now that the COVID pandemic has somewhat waned, the Sister Cecelia Home for the Elderly is slowly reintroducing the programs it once had before the virus put everything on halt. But now the facility wants to do more than it used to. It also wants to add activities such as a physical therapy exercise to the day’s routine, as Supervisor, Hortense Augustine told us. The only problem is, they could use all the help they could get, and that help must come from you.

“We do activities like painting, drawing, colouring. The physiotherapist comes in and works along with them, showing them different diagrams and have them identify (them). The ones that are blind, we try to put them in a circle and have them with conversations like when they were older – younger. We have movies that we put on for them, different programs also. I know they like the animal channel, so we would put that on for them. Also, we try to keep them updated with the news, and any other thing that is happening in the country. We have reading stories for them. We have one lady here that reads exceptionally well and she is like a teacher. She is a resident, but she is like a teacher to some of the residents here. Then we also have the birthdays every end of the month, Friday. We have that, but what we would need assistance with is maybe a birthday cake. The other thing that we would need help with if anybody has any type of activities that a blind person can use to do probably Braille or something to read or so, we would appreciate that very much. Also little one-pound, two-pound weights that they can do to exercise. I want to re-establish an area where they can have their activities with the physiotherapist, so it’s something like a gym, where we have the items them that they use to do their exercise properly.”
