N.T.U.C.B. Celebrates Fifty-Six Years With Book Launch

The National Trade Union Congress of Belize today commemorated its fifty-sixth year of representing and protecting workers and their rights.  The N.T.U.C.B. is a federation of trade unions made up of thirteen local unions. It is also an affiliate of the International Trade Union Confederation, and the Caribbean Congress of Labor. To mark its fifty sixth year of service, N.T.U.C.B. launched a book entitled the National Trade Union Congress of Belize, written by Lawrence Vernon. The book covers the umbrella organization’s five decades of service. A book launch ceremony was held at the Leo Bradley in Belize City.

“I was proud to have the opportunity to document the history of the Union. They insisted that Union’s heritage must be preserved and honored and actually provided valuable inputs into the final product as mentioned in the acknowledgement of the book. In telling this story based on the information I gleaned from various sources provided by the NTUB records, I sought to be accurate as possible in writing the book. We invariably hear the name NTUCB in the news, but I do not believe the public is fully aware of its achievements since its inception in 1966, nor has its value been fully recognized over the years. But, surely we have heard its vocal opinions various topics expressed in the media. Generally, the public has not fully appreciated what it means to be a real trade union in today’s history. So, I did my best to research and document this as the president said our history of the NTCUB.”
