Will G.O.B. Honor a No Vote?

In acknowledging that the result of a referendum is not legally binding, there is a likelihood that government can go ahead with the passage of its Cannabis and Hemp Control Licensing Bill. According to Pastor Louis Wade, going against the popular vote would not bode well for the democratic vote.

Louis Wade, Belize Coalition of Churches

“We did not elect demigods.  We elected people who said that they would be servants of the people and I believe that should the people of Belize speak, to say we do not want marijuana legalized, I believe that whether or not the government thinks it is powerful enough or popular enough.  I think the question is whether they will be humble enough to be able to say we stand corrected.  So we are about to see what kind of government we have and the church will not be afraid to show the nation what kind of government we have, depending on their reaction to the results of the referendum. As I‘ve said before, we have skin in the game and we are not going anywhere.”
