Improving the Ease of Access to Belize; a Direct Flight from the UK?

Speaking about airlifts into Belize, airline companies have resumed their routes to the Jewel; Air Alaska recently announced increasing their capacity into Belize and there have been up to twenty-seven flights into the Philip Goldson International Airport on Saturdays.  Minister Mahler says that along with the Belize Tourism Board, they are trying to improve ease of access for travelers wanting to visit Belize, including a direct flight from the UK into the P.G.I.A.

Anthony Mahler, Minister of Tourism & Diaspora Relations

“Accessibility to any destination is important; you have to have the hotel stock and you have to have the air routes. The more air routes you have, the more tourists your can bring and it easier for people to get on. If I have to make multiple stops to come to a destination then it is easier for people to get to the destination. We are not only focusing on Mexico and this region to improve airlifts, we are also looking at Europe. We believe that if we get a direct flight from either London or Amsterdam or one of those cities, we can grow the numbers exponentially from Europe. I saw a statistic the other day that is crucial for me. You have about seventy million Brits and from that population, they took ninety-three million trips internationally in 2019, I believe. You have three hundred and fifty million Americans and from that number, they took close to forty-five million trips. And so…”

“If you have a direct flight, we believe that we can grow the numbers exponentially and we have been seeing a growth of about fifteen percent year over year before COVID struck.”
