Basic First-Aid Course for Children

ABC Life Support will be hosting a basic first aid course for children ages eight to fifteen- years- old.  The program is scheduled for July twenty-second, from eight a.m. until two p.m. Javier Canul, the Lead Instructor at ABC Life Support is of the belief that children can play a critical role in emergency situations until professional help arrives. He spoke with us today about the training and what interested participants can expect.

Javier Canul,

Javier Canul, Lead Instructor/ Manager, ABC Life Support

We came up with this idea; it is an idea that has been there for a long time, on the back burner. People didn’t see it as a priority. Since I deal with a lot of kids, I always believe that children will one day save your life. They are as an innocent as they look, the learn quickly and know exactly what to do if you teach them the right procedures. Some of the basic skills they will learn are basically hands only CPR. That is the number one. Also, they will be learning how to open an air way and how to stop the bleed. Those are the three most important things that can save anybody’s life. We need to learn how to open an airway so that they can breath, how to stop bleeding, and how to start CPR until they can get help there. That is what they need to know. Many times we see patients, as an experienced provider, I have gone to homes and see children looks lost, don’t know what to do, when they could have been a person starting the process until professional help gets there. So, with this in mind, we want everybody to know that your child is important. They can save your life.”
